01 / LOOKING BACK — EVERYDAY ENCOUNTERS

The street enters
the image.

A shared bicycle, a subway ride, a rule that gets in the way. Learning C4D made it possible to build moving images without a film crew. The work took shape through mixing, trying and finding something unexpected.

IN THE WORK / ASIAN SHARING HEAVEN II

The bicycle leaves its daily function. Repeated and recomposed in 3D, it becomes part of an excessive synthetic world.

A SUBWAY RIDE / A SYNTHETIC BODY

The artist’s 3D body enters filmed Shanghai subway spaces. The joke comes from the mismatch between an ordinary setting and an impossible action.

A SMALL IRRITATION / AN ABSURD RESPONSE

Restrictions on carrying passengers on electric bikes in Shanghai become an absurd visual complaint. Humour is a way of working through an everyday frustration.

02 / FROM FILM TO LIVE SYSTEM

From a short film
to a running system.

A BRAVE NEW WORLD is not simply stretched into a longer film. The completed short becomes one source inside a live collaboration. BRAIN IN A VAT then preserves the output of that running system.

01 / RENDERED IN ADVANCE

A finished image sequence. In the later live work, this same short can be switched into the mix as a pre-recorded source.

02 / CHANGING DURING THE LIVE

Alex Wang’s MIDI and audio signals affect game-engine parameters. Predominantly real-time imagery and pre-recorded clips are switched together during the performance.

03 / PRESERVING THE OUTPUT

Almost the entire mixed computer output is recorded—not a camera view of the stage. Light editing, voiceover and subtitles turn the run into the public film.

03 / REALITY DOES NOT DISAPPEAR

The city keeps
returning.

Work, circulation, lockdown and absence remain concrete sources. This line runs alongside the live experiments: a scanned body, an AI-written character or a game engine offers another way to approach a lived situation.

PLATFORM LABOUR

Delivery work, pandemic circulation and bodies moving through a game-like city.

ABSENCE / PRESENCE

A scanned avatar enters Shanghai lockdown street scenes when the physical body is absent.

URBAN CHARACTERS

Delivery riders, programmers and synthetic characters meet in a narrative co-written with AI.

A REAL OBJECT / A ROLE REVERSAL

Completed audiovisual performance.

An empty testing booth.
A hand that controls a world.

After mass testing had ended, the booths remained on the street. CHILLCHILLSHIT photographed one and rebuilt it in a game engine, imagining himself inside: instead of being tested, he could extend a gloved hand to test others.

In the realised performance, his hand and a giant virtual hand move together. The virtual hand can push and flick falling human models. A small urban remainder becomes a situation with consequences inside the game world.

Unrealised gallery-installation proposal with a giant hand and physical scenery
UNREALISED / INSTALLATION PROPOSALA proposed visitor-operated installation with physical scenery. This full spatial version has not been realised.

Other people have tried the hand interface in informal tests. Those tests are separate from both the completed artist-operated performance and the unrealised gallery proposal.

04 / A QUESTION IN THE PRESENT

What happens
between the parts?

In CONTROL THE WORLD, moving a hand changes what happens to virtual bodies. That is one clear relation. The current question is how several active parts might coexist, rather than all following the same command.

REAL-TIME AUDIOVISUAL PERFORMANCE

Sound synthesis, ComfyUI imagery and TouchDesigner processing are brought into a live performance. The question of how these layers influence one another is still being developed.

PERFORMANCE / 2026

With Krassen Krastev: a performer, projected figures and shadows occupy the same room. The live body is no longer only represented inside a film.

HUMAN SEQUENCER / ONGOING RESEARCH

More than one
leading voice?

Moving crowds, waiting and repetition become material for a developing image-and-sound system. Instead of making every layer follow a single rhythm, the research asks what happens when they can diverge.

“Polyphonic Audiovisual System” is the current working name for this question—not an achieved result, or a theory that guided the early pieces. Earlier experiments have only become readable in this way through looking back.

CURRENT MATERIAL / NOT A FINISHED WORK

The format and relations are still being tested.
